AI engines serve localized answers based on user language and region. Hreflang tags tell them which version of your content matches which audience — without it, they may cite the wrong language version in their answers.
Without x-default, AI engines might split citations across language versions. The x-default tag designates a fallback page — typically your English or primary language version — that should be cited when no specific regional match exists.
